Villages, History, and Culture in Maremma
Agriturismo PodereDodici is located in the countryside surrounded by the rolling hills of Maremma, home to numerous villages of medieval origin, such as: Pereta, with its 13th-century tower, a remnant of Sienese domination; Magliano in Toscana, with its impressive walls still intact and numerous historic trattorias serving traditional dishes; and Capalbio, with its ancient olive trees and artisan shops inside the perfectly preserved castle.
To combine history with the sea, we recommend Talamone, just 6 kilometers from the farm stay, with its fortress overlooking the sea and its characteristic harbor; and Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole, with fortifications dating back to Spanish rule dominating these two glamorous centers, rich in entertainment options year-round.
The entire territory bears traces of a glorious past where civilizations have alternated since the Etruscan era. An example is found in the Archaeological Park of the Tuff Cities (Città del Tufo). Walking along the itineraries, you will be fascinated by the high walls characterizing the tagliate (Etruscan cuts) or by unforgettable glimpses of the valleys.
Trekking through the Vie Cave leads to Pitigliano, carved into the tuff rock. With its imposing Medici aqueduct, characteristic wine cellars, and impressive churches, it will transport you to the atmosphere of a bygone era.
